This tour takes you to all of the Lake Erie island airports we serve. There are six legs to the tour, but they each are only between 2-12 nautical miles in length.
The tour starts and ends at Port Clinton, Ohio's Keller Field KPCW.
Flying the islands is much different from flying to other destinations. There is no Air Traffic Control between the airports. There is no ILS instrument landings. It's all done by sight (and your trusty GPS). You can (should) use the radio to advise other traffic in the area of your flights.
The suitable aircraft include the Beech 99, Beech 99 Cargo, and for vintage era flying the Ford TriMotor (smaller aircraft are not suitable for transporting passengers and cargo to and from all of the islands at once). These flights are open to all ranks.
You can also fly to and from the island of your choice. These flights can utilize the above listed aircraft, or smaller planes.
"But how do I get to Port Clinton?" Simple. There are regular flights to and from Port Clinton from Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and New Philadelphia. Or you can "dead head" by clicking on "Change Location".
The islands are a popular destination for partiers, vacationers, sportsmen, and residents who live there. Flights are year round.
Have fun!!
